Furnace Filter Information and Guide
Understanding Furnace Filters
This site is dedicated to providing high quality information to help you understand more about furnace filters. The first thing to understand is that Furnace filters were originally designed to protect the internals of furnaces from air born debris particles. They were designed to remove any large, heavy particles like dirt, lint, pollen, and mold spores before they get into the blower to damage it. Even cheap disposable fiberglass types are able to adequately protect the blower from debris, but this is not enough to improve the indoor air quality in the home.
Higher quality furnace filters actually clean air in your home by removing smaller air pollutant particles. These type of particles can become trapped in lungsand airways. Over time they can cause respiratory illnesses.
One way to tell whether you need a better furnace filter is the amount of dust that accumulates on your television screen and furniture. If it is not cleaning dust out of the air then it isn't filtering out the more dangerous respirable particles like smoke, mold spores, bacteria, and virus
